New Novel: Island of the Blue Dolphins By Scott O’Dell This week we continue Island of the Blue Dolphins. We are doing a combination of reading aloud, alone, and listening to the audio as we go. Students are working on comprehension skills and vocabulary throughout.
This past week we have building robots and learning some programming. Next week the teams will have to defeat a course.

Age of Exploration assessments went home last Thursday. Please sign and return by Monday!
We will continue to learn about European settlements in the New World, specifically those settled by England, France and Spain. Students will be focusing on the areas explored as well as the effects of colonization. Daily Geography will have the students looking at a History Map: The United States in 1861.
This past week we took a look at baseball data and statistics. We also evaluated one-step equations using Integers. We will continue to explore algebraic equations. In addition, we will take a look at unit conversions.
On Monday, all 5th grade students will be taking their final STAR testing.
Grammar: We will continue to explore adverbs. The students have begun their a project using their favorite food and adverbs.
Vocabulary/DOL: No Vocab this week.
Spelling/DOL: There will be a spelling/DOL test on Friday. The spelling pattern is VCV.
This week we will work on designing and programming a robotic arm.
This week we will take a look at the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick.
