Happy April Fools Day!
We have a few reminders for some important, upcoming events:
1. It is not too late to bring in new packages of adult-size underwear and/or socks for the St. Francis of Assisi “Seats and Feets” drive. If each family could contribute one of these items, SMS could do a great deal to help St. Francis with their drive to assist the Saint Anthony Center in downtown Milwaukee. A donation bin is located outside of the main school office, next to the water fountain.
2. Please sign up to attend the Wood Sign Painting workshop on Tuesday, April 9th from 6:30-8:30 PM in Donovan Hall. This is an adults-only, BYOB event – a great way to get some friends together, and 30% of the proceeds will go to SMS. To reserve your seat, go to:
3. If you have not done so already, please remember to send in your Variety Show ticket orders – tickets will not be available for sale this Friday, which is the day of the show!
Next year, St. Monica is planning to offer a Parent Education Series, where speakers will present various topics to parents. If you have any ideas or requests for topics to be covered and/or the format for presentations (i.e. live speakers, webcasts, podcasts, etc.), please email them to email@example.com, and I will relay them to the individuals planning these informative events for next school year.
Have a great week!

Notes from the Gym
Please remember that track practice begins today, and the practices will take place on Mondays and Thursdays right after school. Can you please let me know if your son/daughter will be taking part on the team this spring, and I can let Coach Gonzales know who to expect. He also does all of the communicating about meets, practices, etc., so I will share your e-mail address with him. Looking forward to a super spring season!!
I am excited that Spring is here, but I wanted to take this time to remind our parents that your children need to have their gym shoes here at school through the remainder of the year. This is the time of year when mud and dirt are brought in from recess, which makes a huge mess of the floor. I appreciate your support with this.
Finally, I would invite you to join the entire St. Monica community for the 72nd Annual St. Monica Sports Night on Thursday, April 11th. As is our tradition with this event, we will have a great auction, including autographed items and sports tickets, and will honor the 2018-2019 8th grade student-athletes. The funds raised help in supporting the athletics program at St. Monica School, including the new resurfacing, painting, and coating the gym floor from this past summer, and new bleachers and outdoor basketball hoops this year. Our guest speaker will be Joe Sherburne, former St. Monica student and University of Maryland, Baltimore County Division I basketball player. Joe will have stories to share about his college basketball experience, his team's run in the NCAA Tournament last season, and his balancing of athletics and academics as a disciplined student-athlete, which will be followed by Q&A time with him after he speaks. The doors will open at 6:00pm, with a donation of $10 for adults and $6 for children under 12. Pizza and refreshments will be served for those in attendance. And, of course, we will have the ever-popular 3-point shooting contest where 3 lucky winners will be paired with our celebrities. This is a family friendly event, and we would encourage our parents to attend the event with their children. We hope to see you there!
Thank you for your support of everything that goes on in the gym!!
Blessings, Mrs. Wallner
Severe Spring Weather
Dear SMS Families:
Spring is finally arriving, and with that comes the thread for severe weather here in Wisconsin. April 8-12, 2019 is Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week in Wisconsin. Wisconsin averages 23 tornadoes annually.
On Thursday, April 11, 2019, two statewide tornado drills are planned - one in the afternoon and one in the evening. St. Monica School will be participating in the afternoon tornado drill. A mock tornado watch will be issued statewide by the National Weather Service at 1:00pm. The National Weather Service will follow with a statewide mock tornado warning at 1:45pm. The afternoon drill ends at 2:00pm.
