Home & School
We hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend!
This week, our celebration of our wonderful teachers and staff at St. Monica will continue. We would like to recognize the co-chairs of our Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week, Anne Swoboda, Piper Plummer and Katie Foy. We thank you for your efforts with this celebration, as well as all of our wonderful room parents, who assisted as well.
Please keep a look out in your emails for a sign-up link concerning the 2019 Auction and Dinner Dance. In addition, there are still some school-related volunteer positions available for next year, so please take the time to volunteer your time next year if you have not done so already.
Looking ahead, our last Home and School meeting of this school year will take place on Wednesday, May 29th at 8:15 a.m. in Donovan Hall. Please consider attending the meeting – we will welcome our incoming Home and School Executive Board for the 2019-2020 school year.
Have a great week!
Emily Horsfield and Bradley Wabiszewski,
2018-2019 Home and School Co-Presidents
From the Principal
Dear St. Monica Parents-
I wanted to give you an update on staffing for next year.
After 17 amazing years at St. Monica School, first grade teacher Cindy Dittman is retiring from teaching. She has graced our school with an amazing faith and dedication to teaching. Cindy’s love of the children and the teaching profession are incredible. Her shoes will be tough to fill.
Second grade teacher Kelly Hansch brought us a wonderful perspective on education. Her approach to teaching has left a positive mark on the students and parents that she has had the last couple of years. With the arrival of her first baby, she has decided to stay home and be a full-time mom.
We received a plethora of applications for our openings and could not be happier with our hires. We had an interview committee of seven people and interviewed a number of very qualified candidates. We have hired our new, full-day 4K teacher, as well as a 1st and 2nd grade teacher for next year.
We are working on finalizing the filling of this position. We are confident and excited about our prospects.
4K- Lisa Piotrowski
Lisa currently teaches at Catholic East Elementary School. She has an amazing enthusiasm and experience teaching little ones. The moment she walked in the room, we could tell that she was a person that we would love to have join our staff. This was confirmed during the interview. Interesting fact: her dad was a classmate of Ms. Mullaney, and now they will be teaching partners.
1st Grade- Katie Starksy
Katie has been student teaching with Mrs. Butler in 1st grade. Katie brings with her a maturity beyond her years. She is extremely organized and does a great job connecting with her students. She demonstrates a knowledge and passion for teaching. We are thrilled that Katie will continue with us next year as a full time classroom teacher.
2nd Grade- Tim Kasprzak
Tim is currently teaching 2nd grade at Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary Catholic School in Sun Prairie, WI. He received his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Notre Dame. We were all blown away with Tim’s passion for teaching 2nd grade, particularly his dedication to teaching the sacraments. He has a wealth of knowledge, experience, and overall enthusiasm. He will also be an amazing addition to our school and community.
This process reinforced in all of us the wonderful reputation that St. Monica has in the community. It is a tribute to our wonderful teachers, students, parents, and alumni.
Our final announcement is bittersweet. Sara Cervelli and Emma Gillette will not be returning next year. Their positivity and amazing energy will be greatly missed. We wish them both nothing but the best. Below is a letter from the two of them.
Dear students, parents, and colleagues,
It is with a mix of big emotions that we write to let you know neither of us will be returning to teach at St. Monica School in the fall.
As many of you know, Mrs. Cervelli has a four year old who attends St. Francis Borgia School in Cedarburg, where she also lives. When the opportunity arose to become the full time music teacher there, it was impossible to pass up for the Cervelli family. Teaching here for the past thirteen years has been a great joy for Mrs. Cervelli, and she will always have a special place in her heart for all of the past and present students of St. Monica School!
It has been Ms. Gillette’s honor and pleasure to make music with the students and community of St. Monica School for the past four years. She is very happy that she will continue to be around as a parent for the remainder of Lucy’s time here, and she will always cherish the memories and friendships she made while teaching music at SMS.
We are sad to leave, but know that the new music teacher will continue to grow the music program at SMS. We look forward to being audience members at events here for years to come. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support of the Fine Arts at St. Monica School, and ask you to continue that support in the future.
With love and gratitude, and a few tears,
Mrs. Cervelli and Ms. Gillette
These will be big shoes to fill, but we are confident that we will find a teacher that will continue our tradition of a strong music program with enthusiasm, passion, and expertise.
There is a lot going on, but we are very excited for the continued growth and direction we are heading. Thanks for all of your unrelenting support.
